San Francisco Same-Sex Couple Who Received "Marriage License" From Mayor is Already Seeking a "Divorce"

Jul 12, 2004

San Francisco, CA -- A homosexual couple that was issued a "marriage license" from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom only a few months ago is already splitting up and is now seeking a "divorce." According to the San Jose Mercury News, the couple's attorney indicates that they are waiting on the outcome of the California Supreme Court's decision. If that decision voids the licenses issued by Mayor Newsom earlier this year, then no further action will be taken. However, if the licenses are not voided, the couple will file for a "divorce" seeking the dissolution of their short-term relationship.

Although the paper reported that this same-sex couple had been together for over 10 years, it is not surprising that they severed their relationship. Homosexual relationships are notoriously short-lived. Male homosexual relationships of any duration typically have a nonmonogamous agreement, meaning that each person will have frequent relationships outside of the couple relationship.

Homosexual activist and writer, Michelangelo Signorile, stated "the term 'open relationship' has for a great many gay men come to have one specific definition: a relationship in which the partners have sex on the outside often, put away their resentment and jealousy, and discuss their outside sex with each other, or share sex partners." Signorile also states that he and others like him want same-sex marriage in order to "redefine the institution of marriage completely, to demand the right to marry not as a way of adhering to society's moral codes but rather to debunk a myth and radically alter an archaic institution." He further says that same-sex marriage provides "a chance to wholly transform the definition of family in American culture."

Same-sex marriage will not only hurt the institution of marriage and the culture; it will also hurt children. In the pro-homosexual book entitled Different Mothers: Sons and Daughters of Lesbians Talk About Their Lives, editor Louise Rafkin states that the children's "lives, both their emotional lives and public lives, are affected by our lifestyles." Michael, a 27-year-old male, stated that "lesbians who hate or fear men take this out on boy children." Twenty-five-year-old Kyneret Hope stated, "I experienced [lesbian] separatism as a constant level of anger and negativity. . . .Men were called mutants, straight women were considered disowned sisters. . . ."

Mathew D. Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, stated, "Accepting same-sex marriage would result in the abolition of gender and a policy that says gender is irrelevant to the raising of children. Yet, gender is extremely relevant to children. We have come to a point in history where it is no longer acceptable to merely state that one is in favor of traditional marriage. Our Senators and Representatives must draw a line in the sand and preserve marriage once and for all by amending our federal Constitution. Our children and the future of America depend upon the actions that we take today on this important issue."
