Jerusalem, Israel – Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, speaking in Jerusalem at the Southern Wall excavation site outside the Old City, introduced several people who were honored for their courage during the “Restoring Courage” event hosted by Glenn Beck. The event was sold out. Additional big screens were added for the crowds at Safra Square. The event was broadcast internationally and at more than 1,400 viewing parties in 60 countries, including Belgium, Brazil, China, Cuba, France, Hungary, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, the UK, the United States, and Viet Nam, to name a few.

The awards were given in the categories of Faith, Hope, and Charity to recognize individuals who displayed extraordinary courage and whose actions in the face of adversity bring hope for peace in the Middle East. With the Southern Wall of the Old City behind him, Staver called out each person for the special recognition ceremony. A video was shown highlighting the honorees’ stories, and then they were given a commemorative medallion.

Jerusalem’s mayor, Nir Barkat, kicked off the Restoring Courage event, saying that Jerusalem should never be divided. David Brog of Pastor John Hagee’s “Christians United for Israel” read a letter from Muslim Al-Sheikh Fared Kader Al-Jabari of Hebron, who is a well-known defender of Israel. He did not appear in person for security reasons. Glenn Beck presented the keynote message. Beck said, “In Israel, there is more courage in one small square mile than in all of Europe.” He encouraged the Israeli people to remain courageous in the face of adversity, and he assured them that the people of the United States will stand with Israel.

Staver said, “America has been pro-Israel, and America will always remain pro-Israel. As Christians and Americans, our history and heritage is inextricably linked to Israel and the Jewish people. The foundation of Western civilization was birthed in Israel, and it is the survival of Western civilization that is at stake today. Make no mistake, the controversy surrounding Israel is not about a plot of land:  it is about the right of the Jewish people and Israel to exist and about the future of Western values. While the people of America stand with Israel, our government must pursue policies that support Israel. We must move the U.S. Embassy from Tele Aviv to Jerusalem, the rightful capital of Israel. We must ensure that all our policies support Israel.”
