Aug 23, 2007

Lynchburg, VA - Tonight, CNN will conclude a three-night documentary called "God's Warriors" with a two-hour program entitled "God's Christian Warriors." Tonight's documentary will discuss the effect of Christianity on politics, the culture, and public life. Earlier this year CNN spent eight days filming Liberty Counsel, Liberty University and its School of Law to gather information for the documentary. The program will air tonight from 9 to 11 pm ET.

The first 19 minutes of "God's Christian Warriors" will lead off with the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, Mathew Staver and Megan and Mandy Chapman, twin sisters represented by Liberty Counsel in a graduation prayer case against the ACLU.

Rev. Falwell was the founder of Thomas Road Baptist Church where he served as pastor for 51 years. In 1971 he founded Liberty University which is now the largest and fastest growing evangelical university in the world. Christiane Amanpour flew from London to conduct the interview for CNN, which was Rev. Falwell's last media appearance before he died on May 15.

Mathew Staver will speak about training a new a generation of lawyers, judges, educators, policymakers and world leaders to influence law and public policy from the perspective of a Christian worldview at Liberty University School of Law. He will also speak of Liberty Counsel's success defending religious freedom in the courts. Other interviews in the lead segment include Megan and Mandy Chapman whom Liberty Counsel successfully defended against the ACLU regarding graduation prayer. They both now attend Liberty University, and Megan is an intern with Liberty Counsel. CNN conducted a number of interviews with Liberty law students and Liberty Counsel interns. Pastor John Hagee, Rev. Rick Scarborough, Ron Luce and others will also be featured in the two hour program.

On Monday night, Mathew Staver appeared on Roland Martin's show on CNN to debate Barry Lynn with Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. Lynn is opposed to a Christian law school, but he never even visited the School of Law. On CNN, Staver said that the students at Liberty are taught to respect, not ignore, the rule of law. He also spoke about Liberty's cutting-edge lawyering skills training program that has received praise from the bench, bar and the legal academy.

Mathew D. Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law commented: "Liberty University School of Law is training a new generation of lawyers, judges, policymakers, educators and world leaders to have a positive impact on law and policy. Liberty Counsel has been very successful and is making a positive impact in the courts and on public policy. If Barry Lynn is nervous about this new generation of lawyers, he better get use to it because we are just getting started. Our faith does matter and it has a place in public policy."
