Orlando, FL – Two competing drug store chains have switched sides on Liberty Counsel’s “Naughty and Nice List.” For the first time since 2007 CVS Pharmacy has embraced Christmas with a “Christmas Central” portion of its website that is dedicated to Christmas gifts, shipping and savings. On the other hand, Walgreens has moved from the “Nice” side to the “Naughty” side because it refuses to recognize Christmas. Walgreens names other traditional days such as Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but then suddenly uses only “Holiday” to describe the biggest reason for shopping all year.
As part of the annual “Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign,” Liberty Counsel publishes a “Naughty and Nice” list, which catalogs more than 50 national retailers which either censor (“naughty”) or recognize (“nice”) Christmas. Consumers use the list as a shopping guide for where they want to invest their hard-earned money. The list is compiled from information gathered by individual consumers and is updated whenever new information is received. Liberty Counsel wants to give the gift of Christmas back to those retailers who support it.
This month, Gallup polling found that people are planning to spend an average of $764.00 on Christmas gifts, which is up 7% from last month. This individual generosity is greatly needed to help our economy. In an earlier study, Gallup found that 95% of people celebrate Christmas.
On its Website, www.LC.org, Liberty Counsel offers a Christmas Action Pack, which includes legal memoranda to educate officials, teachers, students, employees, and others that it is legal to celebrate Christmas. The action pack also includes an “I ♥ CHRISTmas™” button, an “I Helped Save Christmas” bumper sticker and button, and sample ads for use in local newspapers.
Mathew D. Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, commented: “Christmas isn’t a dirty word. No other federal holiday is blacklisted to the extent that Christmas is by some retailers. The ‘Naughty & Nice’ List allows consumers to patronize retailers that acknowledge Christmas. This list has caused many retailers to reverse course and acknowledge Christmas. The overwhelming majority of Americans celebrates Christmas and likes to see Christmas as a part of the shopping experience.”
