The Senate has inserted a measure into the last pages of the upcoming “Affordable Housing” bill. The measure would allow the Fed to issue a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) beginning December 31, 2030 — just a little over four years from now.

In this day and age where so much of our spending is done electronically, online, and through debit and credit cards, it would be easy to assume that CBDCs are just another tool to make spending easier. 

But “Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) are not just another digital form of money,” says Nick Anthony, a research fellow for both the CATO Institute and the Human Rights Foundation.  

Anthony delivered a dire warning on June 15: 

A CBDC is not just a digital crown, a digital euro, or a digital dollar. It is programmable money. Money that can be turned off. Money that expires. Money that cannot be spent on things the state disapproves of. 

When money becomes programmable, the question is no longer just “How much do you have?” It becomes “What are you allowed to do with it?” That is different from the power to tax or the power to inflate. It’s the power to permit. 

Effectively, Anthony explains that CBDCs are really a surveillance and punishment system where the government is the final arbiter of how you are allowed to use your hard-earned income, if at all. 

The Joe Biden administration is just the most recent example of how even here in the good ol’ USA, there are politicians who seek breathtaking and anti-constitutional controls over ordinary Americans and their everyday lives. 

If the U.S. Senate passes this Affordable Housing Act with the CBDC language intact, whoever is president on January 1, 2031, will have the power to program your money or prevent you from using it at all.
