For years, Liberty Counsel has warned that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) operates with a reckless disregard for truth, ethics, and the rule of law. Now, a stunning new development confirms what we have experienced firsthand. 

Following the 11-count federal indictment, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched an investigation into the SPLC for deceptive and unfair fundraising practices and has issued a sweeping subpoena demanding extensive internal records. According to public reports, the investigation focuses on whether the SPLC misled donors about how its charitable contributions were used, including whether donor funds were secretly used to pay violent white supremacy organizations, manufacture racial division, and financially support the very extremist figures it claims to oppose. 

Attorney General Uthmeier stated that the SPLC “raises millions in charitable donations every year, while allegedly paying members and leaders within the very groups it purports to fight,” adding, “there will be consequences.”  

This revelation comes as no surprise to Liberty Counsel. 

As you know, for more than a decade, we have been forced to defend ourselves against a frivolous lawsuit launched by the SPLC and its client, Janet Jenkins, including an irrational and impossible demand for 200 billion dollars. After more than 11,000 hours of legal work, 25 depositions, 186,000 pages of documents, and thousands of exhibits, a federal judge ruled unequivocally that the SPLC’s claims against Liberty Counsel were completely without merit.

Yet the SPLC refuses to stop.

Despite knowing the full factual record — and knowing they cannot win — the SPLC filed an appeal and submitted a brief that misrepresents the facts, ignores the evidence, and openly defies the court’s findings. In response, Liberty Counsel has filed a 75-page opposition brief requesting sanctions against the SPLC for willfully deceiving the court and violating fundamental ethical boundaries.
