Suspended teacher tries to sue parents into silence
A Jacksonville, Florida, public school teacher was put on administrative leave over the vile comments she posted publicly on social media celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Now she’s suing Moms for Liberty, which reported those social media posts to the school board and state officials. Liberty Counsel is defending Moms for Liberty against this teacher who is trying to punish the organization for exposing her public offensive statements.

On the day after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Jacksonville public school teacher Hope McMath publicly celebrated his murder with a vile and disgusting public Facebook post. "Karma is a b****” she posted, “and she heard all your speeches.”
Not a rumor. Not a misquote. Her words. Her post. Her choice. And it didn’t stop there. McMath’s social media was littered with similarly controversial and divisive posts — raising serious questions about her judgment, bias, and professionalism in the classroom.
Citizens saw this vile post. Parents saw it, too.
Enter Moms for Liberty — doing exactly what citizens are supposed to do: petitioning their government. These moms didn’t just raise concerns about the posts in a vacuum. They asked two deeper, obvious questions:
That’s called accountability. And now Hope McMath is SUING Moms for Liberty over the public posts she herself made for the world to see!
That’s retaliation. That’s intimidation.
Let’s call this what it is: A meritless lawsuit designed to punish citizens for reporting a public employee’s own public statements and asking whether those views were impacting students.
Florida has an Anti-SLAPP law. SLAPP stands for Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation. That is exactly the intent of this teacher — she wants to silence Moms for Liberty.
Liberty Counsel has now taken up the case using the Anti-SLAPP law, which means that this teacher could be held responsible for attorney’s fees and costs over her frivolous litigation.
Moms for Liberty didn’t invent anything. They didn’t distort anything. They didn’t control what happened next. They simply said: “Here are her words. You decide.”
School officials made their own decisions, as they should. But Hope McMath wants to flip the script and make citizens the villains for speaking up.
Not on our watch! Help us defend parents protecting their children in public schools. Support our legal fund today and DOUBLE your gift.
This week we filed a motion to dismiss this frivolous lawfare suit, and we asked the federal court to order McMath to pay our legal fees and costs.
If Hope McMath’s theory were the law, every parent, every citizen, every watchdog would think twice before speaking up. That’s exactly the chilling effect the First Amendment forbids.
Liberty Counsel stepped in because the Constitution doesn’t defend itself. And citizens shouldn’t need a lawyer just to report what they can see with their own eyes.
Free speech is not a liability. It’s a right. And if telling the truth gets you sued, the problem isn’t the truth; it’s the lawsuit.
Without your prayers and financial support, we would not be able to help the people and organizations that need a defense.
