Los Angeles refuses religious accommodation for Christians — but not Muslims
Liberty Counsel is suing on behalf of Eric Batman
As a Bible-believing Christian, Eric Batman cannot participate in or endorse the LGBTQ agenda. But despite clear federal law and constitutional religious freedom rights, Los Angeles REFUSED to grant his rightful religious accommodation, even though LA regularly grants similar accommodations to Muslims.
Worse yet, LA told Eric to “seek counseling” to help him overcome his Biblical beliefs which prevent him from endorsing the LGBTQ lifestyle, effectively demanding he go to Soviet-style “reeducation camp” while also implying his Christian beliefs indicate mental illness!
Liberty Counsel is representing Eric in Batman v. Los Angeles, and we need your direct financial support to win. DOUBLE your gift with our Challenge Grant.
For 24 years, Eric Batman faithfully served Los Angeles County as a civil engineer. He helped protect communities from flooding, oversaw critical infrastructure, and earned a strong record of professionalism and trust.
Eric also lives openly as a Christian.
But in recent years, Los Angeles County adopted a policy requiring all county departments to fly the LGBTQ “Pride” flag throughout the month of June and encouraging participation in Pride Month activities. For Eric, this created a serious conflict with his sincerely held Christian beliefs.
Eric did not protest. He did not criticize others. He simply asked for a reasonable religious accommodation, which the law guarantees.
His request was modest: permission to work remotely during the month of June. He had already done so successfully in prior years, his duties could easily be performed from home, and other employees were already working remotely for religious reasons — including during observances like Ramadan.
Los Angeles County said no.
Instead of engaging in the interactive process required by law, county officials denied Eric’s accommodation, suggested he use a back entrance to avoid the flag, and even told him to seek mental health counseling if his beliefs caused him distress.
After decades of public service, Eric’s Christian beliefs were not respected — they were treated as a problem.
Christianity is not a mental illness.
Please stand with Eric today. Support Liberty Counsel’s legal defense — and a special Challenge Grant will DOUBLE your gift.
Liberty Counsel has filed a federal lawsuit on Eric’s behalf, seeking to stop this unequal treatment and defend the constitutional and civil rights of every Christian who works for the government.
If government employers can force Christians to choose between their faith and their livelihood, religious freedom becomes nothing more than words on paper.
The county is backed by taxpayer-funded attorneys. Eric depends on Americans who still believe in fairness, faith, and equal treatment under the law.
Many of you have spent your lives standing for Christian values and constitutional liberty. Your generosity today helps ensure those freedoms are preserved for your children and grandchildren.
