Help us END the No Christian Commanders policy. . .

Feb 3, 2025

The State of Idaho has effectuated a “No Christian Commanders” policy, bowing to the demands of LGBTQ adherents who are dead set on stripping Christians of their most basic First Amendment rights to freedom of religion and speech.

As a result, an Idaho Army National Guard commander has been stripped of his command over posts to his personal social media account questioning the wisdom of allowing men in women’s bathrooms or drag queen story hour in children’s schools.

Liberty Counsel is on the case. We’ve been defending Christian military members for years. Our work forced the Biden administration to drop its outrageous mandates targeting Christian military members, and our work with the Trump administration helped return the members Biden fired to their rightful positions in the military.

But the LGBTQ crowd isn’t finished with their quest to remove Christians from public view and silence Christians who refuse to sacrifice their deeply held Christian beliefs on the altar of LGBTQ activism.

While President Trump has already issued many executive orders regarding the military and defending Christians, our many legal cases on related subjects must continue to make their way through the courts. This case is no exception.

In this case, a homosexual National Guard member hates Christians who do not support his LGTBQ agenda. He complained about having a Christian as his commander, despite the fact that the commander never discussed his Christian worldview with the soldier.

The Guard member’s complaint was based solely on the commander’s personal social media posts that questioned the wisdom of allowing men in women’s bathrooms and exposing children to drag queen story propaganda in public libraries.

Now the Christian officer has been removed from his command, thanks to an Obama-era policy that falsely categorizes Christians as “extremists” who must be eradicated from the U.S. military.

Worse yet, the Idaho Army National Guard is recommending that all full-time service members private social media accounts be “scrutinized” for Christian viewpoints, and that Christian service members should be reported to the DOD Counterintelligence and Insider Threat Hub for adjudication as extremists.

Liberty Counsel filed a federal lawsuit, and we will defend this Christian Commander all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, if we must.

Our client, Officer John Doe*, is committed to serving those under his command, regardless of political or religious views, and his long service to our country proves he would give his life in defense of his state, nation, and fellow military members.

In 2023, a subordinate officer who identifies as homosexual complained to John’s chain of command, claiming the posts John made on his own personal social media account made the subordinate officer feel “uncomfortable” and “unsafe, and that John’s personal posts to his own social media created a “hostile work environment.” Yet, his posts never mentioned the military or his service. The subordinate officer claimed that John’s views were aligned with “hate groups” and “extremists.”

Following the complaint, the Idaho Army National Guard removed John from his command.

The military’s actions are nothing short of religious discrimination. We will not let this stand! Help us defend our defenders today.

Sadly, Liberty Counsel is handling a near mountain of cases instigated by embittered LGBTQ activists who seek to silence Christians and remove all of Christianity from public view. Tomorrow, I will provide an overview of some of the other egregious cases we are handling in this realm.

But in the meantime, there is one more thing you can do to help THIS case!

Idaho Gov. Brad Little is the official commander of the Idaho National Guard. As such, he has the power to end this siege upon Christian Guard and military members immediately.

Please take a moment right now to FAX Gov. Little and demand he immediately END the Idaho National Guard’s “No Christians as Commanders” policy.

For 35 years, Liberty Counsel has defended religious freedom. We’ve won 37 U.S. Supreme Court cases we have argued or briefed, and we have achieved countless other wins before state Supreme Courts and the Courts of Appeals. We intend to win this latest fight for our military member’s religious freedom as well, but we need YOUR help.

Every donation made to our legal fund today will be DOUBLED in impact by a special Challenge Grant.
