Andrew enlisted in the military right after 9/11. He has spent the last 19-and-a-half years faithfully serving his country in one of America’s longest wars. Now, he writes that soldiers and servicemen like himself are being “dehumanized” for refusing to take the COVID jab.

“I have recently seen a push to demonize those who have not received the vaccine claiming that if you do not receive the vaccine, you are selfish,” Andrew writes. Vax-resistant service members are told, “If you don’t get the vaccine, you don’t care about your fellow countrymen or the greater good.”

Andrew goes on to point out the many well-reasoned and scientific factors that went into his decision and those of his fellow soldiers not to get these shots.

“It has been excruciating for me to see the distress that many of my fellow service members have been feeling. They are emotionally spent. They stand accused of being the enemy. They feel like their reputations and livelihoods are at severe risk. They feel like their chain of command is going to abandon them.”

Liberty Counsel will not abandon these brave men and women who risked it all for us.

Another active-duty officer—I’ll call him “Chris”—likens this to a “Daniel moment,” writing:

“If religious exemptions are denied, all religious freedoms are falling right behind. If this fails, you will be forced to decide in a short time whether you stand with the military or with Jesus.”

“Daniel didn’t HAVE to pray visibly,” writes Chris. “He could have prayed in his head and still honored God and kept his position. Instead, because of his position, because he knew people were looking up to him, because he was a greater magistrate, he visibly prayed in front of his window to inspire and embolden others to remain true to their faith. He was a leader and a great man.”

As an officer, Chris will not hide his decision to vaccinate from the men and women he leads OR the religious reasons behind it. In his own words, this is a “Daniel in the Lions’ Den” moment.

For weeks, we have been receiving calls for help from active-duty service members saying they would soon be mandated to take the jab. The calls and emails have become more urgent every day.

This week, Biden’s plan came into perspective. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced he is “working expeditiously to make the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for military personnel.”

Federal law requires individuals be given a choice to opt out when a product is under Emergency Use Authorization. But Austin and Biden are already making plans to “waive” (aka violate) the federal law and force the jab into every active-duty military and Department of Defense employee and contractor.

Even without the EUA law, federal workers and people in the armed services cannot be forced to take these shots.

But these soldiers, sailors, airmen, coast guardsmen and marines calling our office tell us their retirement, benefits and even honorable discharge status are being threatened if they do not accept the shot.

Federal workers may claim religious exemptions under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993. This law applies to all levels of the federal government. In addition to federal law, the FDA includes the Nuremberg Code and the Helsinki Declaration on its website, emphasizing the fact that people cannot be forced to take experimental drugs without their consent.

Those who signed up for military service after 9/11 have been in a continuous war to defend freedom. They voluntarily gave up their youth to defend us. As we approach the 20th year since 9/11, we must honor our heroes and not threaten them with court martial. These heroes defended us. Now we will defend them.
