Using COVID as the fear factor, power hungry governors have imposed severe lockdowns on everything they deem “non-essential.”

Most governors declared the church “non-essential,” while abortion clinics, liquor stores, big box centers and hundreds of other categories of activity were deemed “essential.”

These restrictions are still imposed by mostly Democrat governors. In CA, Gov. Gavin Newson continues to CRIMINALIZE ALL INDOOR WORSHIP.

And don’t think churches can find refuge on the internet. Amazon began purging some Christian books from its platform and this year it deleted conservative organizations from the internet. How long until Big Tech decides pastors and churches shouldn’t be online?

Many Americans did not realize just how powerful Big Tech and social media giants like Facebook and Twitter had become… until they silenced the President and deleted over 70,000 accounts. Then Amazon removed Parler (and its #1 app).

How long until Big Tech decides to ban online church services from the internet?

As you know, Liberty Counsel has multiple cases defending churches against unconstitutional church closure mandates. Our case defending the Romanian immigrant churches of Chicago, IL, against Gov. J.B. Pritzker is the first church case in the nation ready for a full review by the Supreme Court.

Our case defending Pastor Ché Ahn, Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry against CA Gov. Gavin Newsom may well be the second. Since July 13, Harvest Rock Church in Pasadena has been under a TOTAL ban on in-person worship. The Pasadena Criminal Prosecutor has threatened daily criminal charges and fines. We should have a ruling soon from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on our emergency injunction.

Our lawsuits defending brave pastors in Maine, Virginia and Kentucky are working their way through the courts. And we continue to assist more than 2,000 other pastors as they face increasing restrictions.

Some will say, “Our church worships online.” That is your choice. It should never be a government edict enforced by criminal and civil sanctions.

Moreover, don’t think for a minute that the internet is your sanctuary. For several weeks, these social media giants have openly silenced, deleted and de-platformed any voice which disagrees with their political beliefs. The church is next!

Big Tech is already declaring biblical speech to be “against community standards.”

The world’s largest bookseller, Amazon.com, has deleted numerous books addressing “change counseling” for those who have unwanted same sex attractions. The majority of such books are written from a Christian viewpoint.

These books included several studies and actual stories of those who have overcome same sex attraction. But Amazon does not agree with this Christian worldview, so the books have been deleted.

Facebook and Instagram have also jumped into censorship of change counseling by deleting recovery and help groups that provide resources. Like Amazon, Facebook claims Christian groups offering help to those with unwanted same-sex attractions are “in violation of community standards.

If this progression continues, it is not too much of a leap to a time when lawless tyrants and censors will shut down pastors and churches entirely.

Don’t kid yourself by thinking life is fine as long as you can watch church online. By restricting in-person worship, these governors are trying to fragment the church and isolate the body of Christ.

The Greek word for church is “ekklesia,” which means assembly. God designed us for fellowship. Online interaction is no substitute.

For the past year, tyrannical governors around the country have forced American churches into online-only church services. But with Amazon, Facebook, and Instagram already deleting Christian voices, one can only wonder how long the Word of God will be allowed to be preached at all.

I want to emphasize that our current legal battle has two main objectives: (1) we must fight to maintain freedom to worship, and (2) we must fight against online censorship. Both are crucially important to our freedom.
