An African country just banned Twitter for interfering with its election after Twitter deleted thousands of political activist accounts. Sound familiar? Now Twitter’s CEO admits social media censorship is “dangerous.”

Twitter went on a rant this week, demanding an open internet full of free speech. This is intensely hypocritical considering just four days earlier, Twitter deleted the accounts of more than 70,000 Trump supporters, including the president himself!

Twitter was apparently not content to interfere with just the U.S. election...  Twitter interfered with Uganda’s election as well -- and Uganda shut them down for it.

Send your urgent fax to Republican state governors and attorneys general to demand they act to protect the speech and freedoms of people within their states.

According to a post made by Twitter’s official public policy account on January 12, they had been deleting thousands of Ugandan accounts, silencing political speech just days before the most significant election in recent Ugandan history.

“Earlier this week, in close coordination of our peers, we suspended a number of accounts targeting the election in Uganda,” the post read in part.

Uganda fought back, blocking Twitter from being among the internet providers for their nation.

The next day, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey took to his platform defending his decision to ban President Trump and his followers.

But then he made our case for us: “Having to ban an account has real and significant ramifications … I feel a ban is a failure of ours,” Dorsey wrote. He admitted that his actions “fragment the public conversation,” “divide us” and set a “dangerous” precedent, referring to “the power an individual or corporation has over a part of the global conversation.” Censorship “will be destructive to the noble purpose and ideals of the open internet.”

Big Tech censorship is arbitrary and dangerous . . . Free speech is the foundation of a free society.

Social media tech giants have become so powerful that they believe they can operate at will, even to the point of choosing our president for us.

Big Tech has shown that the only speech allowed is speech with which they agree. And now these mega-corporations are so comfortable in wielding their monopoly over the internet that they believe they can interfere with elections.

Yet, no one elected Twitter’s Jack Dorsey or Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to be kings of the world or the arbiters of free speech. It is long past time to wrestle our liberty back from the censors seeking to impose their deluded worldview upon law abiding Americans!
