For example, Liberty Counsel's representation of a well-known Florida pastor whose constitutional rights were violated became the topic of widespread media reports on Tuesday even as our fax campaign was in full swing.

Our client, Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne of The River at Tampa Bay Church in Tampa, Florida was arrested on Monday for having church last Sunday. The county order was only issued last Friday at 10:00 PM, and it has many exceptions, except for churches.  Pastor Howard-Browne was arrested despite the fact that the church enforced a six foot separation while Home Depot and other stores are jammed with people not enforcing a six foot perimeter.

BUT, according to Hillsborough County, Florida, and many other states and counties around the nation, churches must close no matter what precautions they take to protect people. This is ridiculous on its face, and a flagrant violation of our First Amendment.

The point is not IF your church should stay open or close, or whether people should attend. Certainly, people with elevated risk levels should be very smart about their choices and actions. However, the difference between liberty and tyranny is the difference between asking and ordering. Asking for caution and care, as President Trump has done, is liberty. Violating the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States by ordering church closures is TYRANNY.

As a direct result of your activism, and our representation of Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, TWO state governors have reversed unconstitutional bans on churches!

That's right, as of this morning, the governors of Texas and Indiana have revised their orders to clearly reflect that churches ARE essential services and can therefore remain open. We are praying fervently that the remaining 48 states will follow. We CANNOT allow 2020 to be the first year in the history of the United States that churches will not be open on Easter Sunday.

Just last night, Fox News' Tucker Carlson began a new campaign to expose the blatantly unconstitutional orders being handed down by elected and appointed officials. And venerable columnist Todd Starnes has also broadcast that Liberty Counsel is advising and representing pastors facing adverse legal consequences for holding church. YOUR faxes and YOUR help spreading the word ARE HAVING A REAL IMPACT!

Praise the Lord, the nation is waking up to the fact that Liberty MUST NOT die at the hands of ill-advised and sometimes tyrannical elected officials and bureaucrats. Even in the face of a pandemic and the panic it has caused, the United States Constitution still stands. Even in a "public health emergency" -- in fact especially during such a time --our constitutional right to freedom of religion must not be abridged!

My friend, there can be a reasonable balance between constitutional rights and public safety — one that uses a scalpel instead of a chainsaw in government edicts — to ensure that our God-given, constitutionally guaranteed rights are not diminished even as we work toward beating the novel coronavirus...or any other "emergency" that might be declared at some future time.
