Yesterday's well-timed "bombshell" leak from former National Security Council director John Bolton's forthcoming book hit Washington like a tornado.
Based entirely on anonymous sources and without directly quoting Bolton's book, the New York Times report claims Bolton charges that President Trump tied Ukrainian aid to an investigation into the Bidens.
That triggered two and perhaps more GOP senators to open the door to hearing from Bolton and possibly more witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump.
Sadly, moderate Republican Mitt Romney said on camera "it would be important to hear from John Bolton"!
But as constitutional scholar Alan Dershowitz explained in great detail yesterday, the Bolton "bombshell"—even if true—is not even close to an impeachable offense.
Tell wavering Senate Republicans—Romney and five others—to end this partisan and unconstitutional attack on President Trump!
See below why this latest "last minute surprise," which is no surprise at all, is not even close to an impeachable offense. –Mat

Democrats pounced on the New York Times "Bolton leak" to demand more witnesses yesterday.
On one hand, House Democrats claim they have an "overwhelming" "mountain of evidence." And now they clamor for more witnesses to make their case—witnesses they failed to pursue in the House!
They can’t have it both ways.
Here's the truth... This is all nothing more than a targeted attack to strike President Trump's name off the 2020 ballot. It's radical, bare-knuckles politics with one purpose — ousting a president whom Democrats despise and have been working to remove from the moment he came into office.
And now some moderate GOP senators—Romney, Susan Collins and possibly others—are poised to do Chuck Schumer's bidding and extend their baseless, sham impeachment!
It's time to end this witch hunt now.
Take a moment to join me in calling on wavering GOP Senate moderates to reject House Democrats' ploy to extend this sham impeachment.
+ + Not an impeachable offense
The truth is that even if what former NSC advisor John Bolton allegedly states in his forthcoming book is true—and the president flatly denies it—it's not an impeachable offense under the Constitution.
Alan Dershowitz, an eminent constitutional scholar and retired Harvard law professor took the Senate to school last night.
He explained why the vague, open-ended, and subjective impeachment articles leveled against the president—abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—utterly fail the constitutional test for an impeachable offense.
"I'm sorry, House managers, you just picked the wrong criteria," Dershowitz said looking at Rep. Adam Schiff and his fellow Democratic managers.
And the alleged Bolton revelations, Dershowitz said, do nothing to bolster the House Democrats' case for impeachment.
"Nothing in the Bolton revelations, even if true," Dershowitz told the Senate, "would rise to the level of an abuse of power or an impeachable offense."
But Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), who is no friend of President Trump, thinks "it's increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton."
Worse, Romney claimed "it's increasingly likely that other Republicans will join those of us who think we should hear from John Bolton."
And moderate GOP senator from Maine, Susan Collins is growing wobbly, too. She said on Twitter that "reports about John Bolton's book strengthen the case for witnesses and have prompted a number of conversations among my colleagues."
It’s time to bring this political charade to an end. Tell wavering senators to acquit President Trump!
+ + Here's the Democrat strategy in all this...
If the Senate votes to bring witnesses, it will force the president to go to court to defend executive privilege—something granted under the Constitution and an important part of the separation of powers.
That will delay the Senate impeachment trial and take weeks, possibly months, to resolve. In turn, that will prolong this partisan witch hunt into the presidential election season—which is what Democrats want.
And some GOP senators now want to hand Democrats this gift—even though the Bolton report—even if true—does not rise to an impeachable offense!
The simple fact is that Democrats—inflamed with hate for the most pro-life, pro-Israel and strong on defense president in decades—are doing everything possible to take his name off the 2020 president election ballot.
You and I need to make our voice heard!
Take a minute right now to tell the five waffling GOP senators to reject witnesses and acquit President Trump.
Thank you for your love for America, the Constitution and the God-given liberties it guarantees. Join me in defending them now by sending your faxes now!
