If you want to understand Planned Parenthood today, look at its radical founder, Margaret Sanger. Her shadow still hangs over the organization she launched—and Planned Parenthood celebrates her to this day.

For Sanger, the most pressing problem afflicting any society was too many babies—make that too many of the "wrong kind" of babies. She called them "unfit" and her life's mission was to eliminate them. As she said . . .

"The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it."

"The most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective."

A "birth control" pioneer, Sanger wanted to purge society of people she derided as "feeble minded" and "physically and mentally defective."

To her, the so-called "unfit" included people like the musician with Down Syndrome who ran to hug President Donald Trump Saturday night. He did so after he and other members of the Israeli Shalva Band performed a spectacular performance of "God Bless America."

+ + Nothing more than a "human weed" . . . to be eliminated

It was a wonderful, deeply touching moment. But Sanger would eliminate this musician because he has Down Syndrome. To Sanger, he is nothing more than a "human weed"—someone to be yanked from "our garden," as she put it.

One way to do that, Sanger said, is "immediate sterilization . . . making sure that parenthood is absolutely prohibited to the feeble-minded."

Another way is abortion.

A self-declared "rebel woman," Sanger endorsed what she called the "right to destroy" – a.k.a. abortion.

As she told women in a 1914 pamphlet entitled "Family Limitation" . . .

"Never allow a pregnancy to run over a month. If you are going to have an abortion, make up your mind to it in the first stages, and have it done."

There's more. Sanger also spoke to the Ku Klux Klan and led what she called her "Negro Project." It was an effort to eliminate more of the "unfit"—in this case poor blacks in the American south.

Because some blacks were likely to suspect Sanger's motives, she wrote:

"We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

+ + Sanger is still Planned Parenthood's hero

Despite all this, Planned Parenthood celebrates Margaret Sanger today. Its Sanger Award is the abortion firm's highest honor. Past awardees include Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.

And despite its racist roots, Planned Parenthood today is a politically powerful $1.7 billion business with abortion at the "core" of its mission. It commits some 330,000 abortions annually and took in $563 million from taxpayers in 2017.
