Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer broke out the champagne and put on his party hat last week after the House passed the dangerous and deceitfully misnamed "Equality Act" (HR 5).

"Americans should be very proud today!" Democrat Schumer tweeted after nine Republicans joined 236 Democrats to overwhelmingly pass HR 5 and send it to the Senate.

Now Schumer is clamoring for a Senate vote on this radical attack against religious liberty, the unborn and women. It's an LGBT wrecking ball to your freedom which pushes the LGBT agenda in every area of life--including the church.

And Schumer--one of 46 "Equality Act" co-sponsors in the Senate--can't wait to impose this extreme measure on you, your family and the nation.

"Now it's time for @SenateMajLdrMcConnell to hold a vote in the Senate" Schumer demanded last Friday.

+ + More than 35,000 petitions to Senate Friday

On Friday, Liberty Counsel, along with our public policy arm, Liberty Counsel Action, will deliver a petition with more than 35,000 signatures demanding that the Senate STOP this vicious attack on our freedoms.

The "Stop the Attack on Religious Liberty" petition, which you can still sign here, warns that the Equality Act...

"threatens religious liberty, speech, privacy, and women's rights. It broadly imposes the LGBT agenda and does not exempt churches or religious employers, organizations or colleges."

Again, if you haven't already signed the petition, please do so NOW. If you act today, your name will be included in our delivery Friday. We aren't done pressuring the Senate and will continue to petition the upper chamber. And for one simple reason...

This is the gravest threat to freedom to ever make it through the House. And it could pass unless we keep sounding the alarm. If this bill becomes law:

• Churches would be forced to hire gender-confused individuals and allow men access to female restrooms, showers, etc.
• Churches that provide weddings would be forced to provide the same facilities for LGBT "same-sex weddings."
• LGBT indoctrination would be required in school curricula and in workplaces.
• Faith-based adoption agencies would be forced, against their religious convictions, to place children in homes with same-sex couples.
• Counselors who want to help minors and adults facing unwanted same-sex desires or actions would be gagged--banned by law from providing desired counseling.

And that is just the beginning of the lawless chaos that will afflict America if the so-called "Equality Act" became law.


+ + As bad as the situation is, this gives me hope...

But I have good reason for hope that we can kill this bill. The Senate version of the Equality Act, S 788, has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Sen. Lindsey Graham. Earlier this week, Sen. Graham's office told us he has no interest in taking up this bill.

Those are wonderful words, but we must remain vigilant. There are other parliamentary paths by which this attack on your freedom could come to a full Senate vote and, possibly, become law.

In addition, Democrats will do everything possible to pressure Senate Republicans to support the misnamed "Equality Act." One Republican, Susan Collins of Maine, has already signaled her support for the bill. Other GOP senators could follow.
