Jonathan Alexandre Receives the Young Haitian Citizen of the Year Award

Nov 20, 2023

Liberty Counsel’s Senior Counsel for Governmental Affairs Jonathan Alexandre received the 2023 Young Haitian Citizen of the Year Award at the Fourth Annual Haitian American Young Professional (HAYP) Awards Gala near Boston, Massachusetts, November 19, 2023. Since 2019, the U.S. Haitian Chamber of Commerce has honored young professionals under the age of 45 with the HAYP Awards for continually demonstrating outstanding leadership, exemplary professional accomplishments, and commitment to their communities. According to the Chamber, the gala event is a “national tribute” that transcends state lines to recognize the “brilliance, dedication, and indomitable spirit of Haitian-American professionals.”

Out of more than one hundred nominations, Alexandre was one of five finalists for the Citizen of the Year Award and was one of 25 finalists across five different award categories honored at the gala for their outstanding accomplishments.

Alexandre is a public policy attorney who advocates on behalf of religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and family issues with legislators at the federal, state, and local levels across the nation.

Alexandre was a Presidential Appointee serving on the Board of Directors for the U.S. Agency for Global Media for the Trump administration. He serves as General Counsel for the Frederick Douglass Foundation. Formerly the Assistant General Counsel and Public Policy Coordinator for the Massachusetts Family Institute in Boston, he also developed the Massachusetts Attorney Resource Council, a network of pro-family Massachusetts attorneys. Jonathan previously worked for the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs in Israel as a Scholar in Residence and was a civilian attorney at the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School.

While Alexandre stated he was honored by the award, he credited God for his inspiration and accomplishments.

“As a religious liberty attorney, there are many settings in which, while attempting to influence in government, God gives wisdom for the moment,” said Alexandre. “God gives wisdom through His Word and through experiences to know just how to address the situation. But He also gives us a great capacity to be kind to others, all for the purpose of glorifying God and changing hearts for good.”

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “The Haitian Chamber of Commerce made an outstanding choice awarding Jonathan Alexandre with the Young Citizen of the Year Award. Jonathan Alexandre is exceptionally effective on Capitol Hill defending religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family.”
