Chief Justice Roy Moore Final Hearing Today

Sep 28, 2016

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore will appear in court today where his case will be heard beginning at 9 a.m. in the Alabama Supreme Court.

The Southern Poverty Law Center filed complaints against Chief Justice Moore with the Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) which filed six charges against him, all focused on his January 2016 Administrative Order. That order merely advised Probate Judges that the prior Alabama Supreme Court orders from 2015 remained in effect while the Court was reviewing the matter. The JIC charged that the four-page order directed the probate judges to violate federal court rulings, but the Administrative Order did no such thing. Paragraph 10 stated: “I am not at liberty to provide any guidance to the Alabama probate judges on the effect of Obergefell on the existing orders of the Alabama Supreme Court. That issue remains before the entire Court which continues to deliberate on the matter.”
