Congress Considers Dangerous "Health" Care Bill

We announced the following yesterday. On March 9, 2007, Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) introduced H.R. 1424, the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007.  This legislation requires employers that offer mental health benefits cover all mental diagnoses under the DSM-IV, including gender identity disorder and pedophilia. The bill has 273 co-sponsors and is scheduled to be on the House floor either Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

H.R. 1424 could easily be used as a stepping stone in order to pass hate crimes legislation. There are 29 members who voted against hate crimes legislation on May 3, 2007, yet they are supporting this bill! These members must be held accountable for their decision to co-sponsor this dangerous bill.

Please contact the following 29 members of the House of Representatives and ask them not to support H.R. 1424 (there are several toll-free numbers for the capitol switchboard: 1-866-220-0044; 1-866-340-9281; 1-888-355-3588; 1-800-450-8293; 1-877-851-6437; 1-877-762-8722; 1-877-762-8762; 1-800-833-6354; and 1-866-808-0065; or you may call 202-224-3121 or go to the House web site for contact information.
