What Freedom Means on Independence Day 2021

The July 4th celebration holds different meanings for Americans across the country—and this year is no exception.

Many would agree that our nation has reached an unprecedented state of division. Amidst the increasing media censorship and the incessant push of a radical agenda, Americans find themselves divided between conservatism and liberalism, freedom and oppression, truth and lies.

We must revisit the meaning of “America” at a time like this. On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers formally adopted the Declaration of Independence in the middle of the Revolutionary War. Drafted by a committee of five, the document declared the 13 colonies independent states and no longer under British rule.

The Declaration was a symbol of the birth of the United States. More importantly, it became a statement that we are a people free from the authority of man. With this foundational understanding, we declare the individual rights and liberty we enjoy. It also allows Christians in this great nation the freedom to serve Christ without government interference.

Yet, a couple of centuries later, we are witnessing a rapid decay in liberty and morality. Whether you lean left or right on the political aisle, it is evident that the fabric of our society is tearing apart.

As citizens of the United States, it is our duty to be informed and to educate others on the founding values of our republic.

As Christians, it is our mission to proclaim the gospel of truth to a generation of souls deceived by the enemy of their souls who seeks to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).
