6 Ways You Can Make A Difference for LIFE

Jan 19, 2022

January 22, 2022, marks the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade (1973), the infamous Supreme Court opinion that, along with Doe v. Bolton (1973), opened the door to abortion on demand in America. Since then, over 63 million babies have been lost to abortion in our nation.

When you look at the number of abortions in America, it can feel overwhelming, and you may be wondering what you can do to help. Here are a few practical ways YOU can make a difference for LIFE:

1. PRAY

The battle for life is raging around us. As imperative as it is to see Roe v. Wade overturned in our nation’s highest court, it is even more imperative that Roe v. Wade be overturned in the hearts of Americans. Pray for eyes to be opened and a culture of life to be restored to our country. Pray for our leaders. Pray for women and families facing a pregnancy decision to find help and hope, and to recognize the intrinsic worth of the life they carry. Pray for women and families who are living with the pain of a past choice, that they would find healing and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Pray for life-affirming ministries such as pregnancy resource centers and other organizations fighting for the unborn like Liberty Counsel.

2. SERVE

Being pro-life is more than just being anti-abortion. There are over 2,500 nonprofit pregnancy resource centers across the United States that provide free resources to women and families facing an unexpected pregnancy. Many of these centers not only provide pregnancy tests but ultrasounds as well. They offer medically accurate information on all options available, material assistance through education programs and so much more. Pregnancy resource centers are donor supported and depend on loving, compassionate people in their communities to volunteer time and resources. Potential opportunities include meeting with clients, helping with administrative tasks or events, or donating baby supplies such as diapers, wipes and baby clothes.

Here are two options for finding a pregnancy resource center in your area: Care Net and Heartbeat International.

3. GET INFORMED

There are a lot of misconceptions and/or questions surrounding abortion: Does life begin at conception? What does the Bible say about life? What help is available to women and families in an unplanned pregnancy? Who are the women having abortions? For what reasons? What are my state’s laws about abortion? Do my taxes fund abortion?

Arming yourself with knowledge will help you not only be a better defender of life in the voting booth and the public square, but also enable you to assist others facing a life-or-death decision.

4. VOTE

The 2018 midterm election and the 2020 presidential election both had record voter turnout but still only had 49% of the population who were eligible to vote in 2018 and 66% in 2020. Voting is an important civic responsibility that we must take seriously. Stand for life by staying informed about abortion legislation in your state and by casting votes for life-affirming candidates.

5. CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES

Elected Representatives are just that—representatives. They have been elected by the people and work for the people. They need to hear from you about how important it is to defend life. Hold them accountable, but also commend and encourage your representatives when they take a bold stand for life.

6. GET YOUR CHURCH INVOLVED

Promote a culture of life in your church. Make a plan for ministering to those who find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy and those who have experienced the pain of an abortion and need the healing and forgiveness found in Christ. Keep contact information on hand so you can direct these women and families to appropriate places where they can receive the additional resources they need. Host a baby shower for your local pregnancy center; ask your congregation to donate baby supplies such as diapers, wipes, baby clothes, diaper cream, etc. Invite a speaker from a pro-life organization to speak to your congregation. Many ministries such as Liberty Counsel are more than willing to speak to local churches to inform and motivate the body of Christ to make a difference for LIFE!
