Notice of Press Conference with Chief Justice Roy Moore Regarding Marriage Complaints

Apr 26, 2016

MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, together with Attorney Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, and Attorney Phillip Jauregui, President and Founder of Judicial Action Group, will conduct a joint news conference on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. CT at the Alabama Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building (rotunda), 300 Dexter Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama.

The Chief Justice and his attorneys will address complaints filed with the Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) of Alabama against him by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), People for the American Way, Human Rights Campaign, and various Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals. On January 12, 2016, some of these individuals publicly protested the Chief Justice’s Administrative Order of January 6, 2016, that explained the legal status of the Alabama Sanctity of Marriage Amendment and the Alabama Marriage Protection Act, and an order in March 2015 entered by the Alabama Supreme Court, at the request of the Alabama Policy Institute and Alabama Citizens Action Program, that prohibited probate judges of Alabama from issuing marriage licenses to members of the same gender.

Mat Staver, who represents Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis who refused to issue marriage licenses to members of the same sex in that state, will discuss the status of religious liberty in our country and how an immoral sexual agenda now threatens not only the freedom of business owners, private individuals, and public officials, but also the judiciary in state governments and, specifically, judges like Chief Justice Moore, who seek to uphold the sanctity of traditional marriage.

Mat Staver, one of the attorneys in Ex parte State ex rel. Alabama Policy Institute (API), is now representing the Chief Justice.  The API case concluded when the Alabama Supreme Court issued a Certificate of Judgment, which is a final order that continued, in effect, the 2015 orders.

Chief Justice Moore and his attorneys will call upon the JIC to dismiss as completely unfounded the agenda-driven complaints of the SPLC, the Human Rights Campaign, People for the American Way, and that group of atheists, homosexuals, and transgender individuals, led by "Ambrosia Starling," an admitted transvestite, which group on January 12, 2016, performed a same-sex "marriage" ceremony on the steps of the Alabama Judicial Building in open defiance of the injunctions which had been issued in API.  Those injunctions were left undisturbed in the Certificate of Judgment issued by the Supreme Court on March 4, 2016 (copies of that COJ will be distributed to the media and press attending this important news conference).
